Healthy Summer & Vacation Tips

Every season brings its own magic, and Summer happens to be my favorite.

We get more sunshine, warmer days, and all then there’s all of the outdoor adventures and events with family and friends. Doesn’t it just give the ultimate care free, anything is possible feeling?

As amazing as that Summer feeling is, when combined with all of the on-the-go activities and vacations, they can throw us for an absolute loop after we’ve spent so much time and energy putting our healthy habits into place. This is where I want to remind you of the MAGIC MIDDLE. This is when we let go of perfection, focus on the progress we can make with small actions, and remember we can always make the next best choice. Keep that principle in mind and you’ll be amazed at the peace it brings.

Here are my tried and true tips and products for feeling your best while living your best life all Summer long:

Stay hydrated

We all know water is important, but with the warmer temperatures it’s even more vital to stay properly hydrated.

When we sweat we lose electrolytes such as, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. Having the right amount of electrolytes ensures hydration at the cellular level allowing our body to function properly; everything from muscle contractions to maintaining pH balance.

While eating a variety of nutrient dense foods will help replenish these minerals, supplementing your water is often needed. A favorite option of mine, and many of my health coaching clients, is Re-Lyte from Redmond. You can grab it here and get 15%!

Keep moving

While you are traveling, you might not have access to your normal movement schedule and space. I always use that to my advantage to switch up my routine for a week! If you are in a new city, try walking or biking tours as a way to explore and learn about the area. At the beach or lake, there’s nothing more peaceful than a morning walk on the water or local trails. Kayaking and stand up paddling boarding are awesome water activities to try too.

If you do want something more structured, look ahead to group fitness studios where you are visiting. Many studios offer drop in classes or even pop up outdoor classes like, yoga or bootcamps on the beach.

Fuel yourself

Being on the go can make choosing nourishing and supportive foods a bit of a challenge, but definitely not impossible!

A pro tip for traveling is: ordering groceries ahead of time to your vacation home or rental. This way, you can meal plan in advance and have what you need delivered versus grocery shopping when you are exhausted from traveling. And try planning for one meal to be the same each day (breakfast is an easy one!) to create consistency and balance for yourself.

For classic summer events like cookouts, offer to bring the fruit and veggie tray! They are easy to put together or grab pre-arranged from the store, and then you know there will be a food option you love.

While at home you can spice up your normal smoothie by making them popsicles. Once you blend them, pour into popsicle molds, put them in the freezer, and enjoy a satisfying and refreshing sweet treat!

Oh, and don’t forget the snacks!

The New Primal meat sticks are a staple for me all year long, but they are especially perfect as a great way to get in some protein while traveling or for a day at the beach. Use code NWW15 for 15% off at The New Primal.
