Spotlight on: Juice and Cleanses

To Juice or not to juice! This is one of the wellness-related questions I get asked most this time of year.

As we head into spring and summer vacations after the winter, I hear more and more about crash diets and people going on a “juice cleanse” with the hopes of losing weight quickly before an event, beach day, vacation, etc.

I get the question a lot: “Is it okay to do a juice cleanse?”” Is it safe?” and “It’s all fruit, so it must be good, right?”

Here’s the truth, my friends…

Juice cleanses are fads that are packed with sugar—with very little to no fiber.

So what exactly does this mean?

This means it spikes your blood sugar rapidly causing a release of insulin.

Insulin tells your body to STORE fat instead of burn it. I know you don’t want that, and no one does.

Because you’re not eating balanced whole foods, you lack micro & macro nutrients your body needs, causing tons of cravings, and constant relying on willpower.

…which is why so often after a juice cleanse people want to eat a whole pizza or spend the night with Ben & Jerry’s!

DO THIS INSTEAD.

Here are some more healthy ways to support your body:

  • Eat balanced whole-food meals following my “healthy plate template” of protein, healthy fats, fiber, and greens. You’ll love these energy balls as a fun and healthy option, too.

This supports blood sugar, hormones, gut health, and helps you feel satisfied without cravings. This is my fav healthy fat, Use code NWW for 20% off)

*Fiber is extra important for gut health if you have bloating (a common reason people do cleanses)

  • Fill in the gaps with quality supplements that your diet can’t always provide. As a Nurse and Health Coach I can recommend targeted, personalized pharmaceutical-grade supplements to help support your body‘s natural functions. Here are the ones I personally use:
